Reflecting on My Interior Business: A Round-Up of December, Home Reno Updates, and Future Plans

We’re almost there, folks!

2023 has almost reached its conclusion, and as we begin getting settled and cosy in preparation for the festive season, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the twelve months that have - for me, at least - absolutely whizzed by.

Not only that, but it’s a moment to take stock of what lies ahead, both in the imminent future and regarding more long term plans. For those of you keeping up with my news, you’ll know that right now, that involves my beloved family home and its ongoing transformation.

I’m delighted to say that, as far as my ongoing home loft renovation journey is concerned, it’s an exciting time in the Redden-Thompson household: there has been significant progress in recent weeks, and I’m thrilled to announce that the tin roof and scaffolding - a constant reminder of the in-between state I’ve been living in for rather a long time - has finally been removed!

It’s a massive milestone on a true labour of love, and one that brings us a key step closer to completing our dream space. I’m deeply excited that we can now get properly stuck into all the fun stuff; painting, laying flooring and reshuffling our home, and being able to actually envision the potential of the space and injecting it with personality. The above board depicts our aspirational loft shower room. However for the meanwhile the loft space is going to become our kitchen - always the heart and hearth of any home! - and the downstairs? Well, that’s going to be the next chapter and the next building site. We’re knocking down the old conservatory, knocking it through and opening up everything to create what we hope to be a lovely, welcoming, open plan and (hopefully) warm living space. It goes without saying, I’ll be keeping you all posted on its progress!

End of Year Workshops: Book Your Place Today!

It’s not only full steam ahead at home, but also at my workshops and gatherings. While we might be rocketing our way towards putting our feet up over the Christmas period, there’s still plenty of opportunity to meet more of you lovely people and get creative together.

Been thinking about attending a Lampshade Workshop in 2023, but haven’t gotten round to it yet? You’re in luck - there are still spaces available on my final two Lampshade Workshops at the ever-brilliant The Bristol Folk House this month.

As you are probably already aware, these workshops aren’t just an absolute joy for me to run, they’ve also been a real highlight for me and a tremendously successful aspect of my design career. I’m hugely grateful to share my passion for lampshade making, expressing your personality through interior design, and getting together with likeminded people for a fun, creative and informative activity.

On Sunday, December 10th, participants will have the option to choose between the Small or Large Lampshade workshops, catering to different preferences and skill levels. It promises to be a creative and inspiring session for all involved, and a brilliant way to round off 2023 with a day of design amongst new friends.

New Project Alert!

I’m always keen to dive head first into new projects, falling in love with new spaces and meeting inspiring new clients. Right now, I’m really excited about an upcoming photoshoot at a gorgeous home in Totterdown - always a gorgeous part of Bristol to explore with its steep hills, characterful houses and bohemian spirit!

We’re going to be capturing a stunning basement living space, and it really is a beauty - all moody blues, an arsenic green ceiling and bags of personality. What a space! I’m going to be joined by the fabulous Faye to capture the unique vibe of the space, and with Abby as my stylist, I’ve no doubt we’re going to capture every detail.

A Reflective New Year

The new year period is always a time in which to take decisive action, as well as a moment to listen to oneself and one’s needs. As we move into the start of 2024, I’ve made the conscious decision to take things slow in January.

This month holds a significant emotional weight for me as it marks the first anniversary of my mother's passing. It is a time for reflection, remembrance, and self-care. While I will be taking a step back from new projects during this period, I am confident that it will provide me with the necessary time and space to heal and recharge.

Rest assured, however, that this is by no means the end of my creative journey. I have many exciting projects in the pipeline for the coming months, and I cannot wait to share them with you! From new interior design ventures to innovative workshops, there is plenty to look forward to as the new year begins to unfold. I am committed to pushing boundaries, exploring new ideas, and creating spaces that inspire and uplift, and it’s this that gives me pleasure, hope and the drive to continue on my journey.

All that’s left to say is a heartfelt thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm.

Your encouragement fuels my passion and motivates me to strive for excellence in all that I do, and I truly mean it when I say it’s a genuine delight to hear from you, to share stories and experiences, and enjoy growing together.

Stay tuned for more updates as I continue on this exciting journey of creativity and self-discovery. Together, let's make 2024 a year filled with beauty, inspiration, and endless possibilities. We deserve nothing less, and nobody but ourselves can make it happen.

With love,

Hannah x
