Behind the Lens, Behind the Design: How a Brand Shoot Reshaped My Approach to Considered Home Interiors

There's something quite revealing about being on the other side of the camera for once. Usually, I'm the one helping clients see their homes differently, but a recent brand shoot with the brilliant Faye Hedges

It gave me a proper chance to step back and think about how I actually work, not just what I make.

A lot of what came through in the shoot was the same thing I try to bring to every project I take on. Considered. Collaborative. Built on colour and confidence rather than trend. We spent the day capturing not just finished spaces, but the process, the samples, the sketches, the quiet decisions that go into making a home feel like somewhere you actually want to be.

It got me thinking about design philosophy in a way I don't always slow down enough to articulate.

One thing the photographs reminded me is that great interior design rarely happens in one big moment. It's built through dozens of small, thoughtful decisions. Comparing two fabrics that look almost identical until they're sitting next to your flooring. Holding a paint sample against natural light at different times of day. Sketching out furniture layouts before settling on the one that simply feels right.

Those quieter moments are often the ones clients remember most. They're where uncertainty turns into confidence, and where a house begins to feel personal rather than simply well decorated. That's why I always encourage people not to rush the process. The time spent asking the right questions nearly always leads to better decisions and a home you'll continue to love for years to come.

My approach has never been about handing someone a finished scheme and walking away. It's about being there, properly there, through the parts that feel overwhelming, the parts that need a second opinion, the parts where confidence runs out before the budget does. Whether that's a single-colour consultation or a full project I'm managing start to finish, the throughline is always the same: considered, colour-led, quite often boutique-hotel-inspired interiors that genuinely reflect the people living in them.

Further Brand shoot images, onsite at Arlo and Jacob, and Bert & May.

I'm genuinely excited about what's coming. I've two wonderful projects already lined up to roll out after the summer, and I'm now taking bookings for October, with full project coordination slots opening up from January onwards. If you've been sitting on an idea, thinking about a refresh, or wondering whether now's the time to bring in some proper support, this feels like a good moment to start the conversation.
